Negroamaro

negroamaroThe Negroamaro (or Negramaro) is a red grape vine planted mostly in Puglia,  especially in the Salento area  ( Taranto,Brindisi and Lecce’s areas). Maybe it was brought in those areas by the Greeks, is known also with many others names as:Abruzzese, Arbese, Jonico, Mangiaverde, Negro Amaro, Nero Leccese, Nigra amaru, Niuru maru, Uva Cane.

His name came from the dialect word “niuru maru”. NEGROAMARO means BLACK BITTER, for is typical dark colour and for his taste lightlybitter of the wine that risults.

It is one of the most important vines of the Southern Italy. Extremely versatile, it is used indeed for making rose’ wines.

It has constant and plentiful performances,  prefers chalky- clayey soils, but it adapts also to other soils as well as hot and dry climate. His typical growing system is the alberello or the “tent”, with long or short pruning.
