Primitivo
The Primitivo is an italian red grape, widespread in the Bari area, overall near Gioia del Colle, where it has his origin, but also in many different areas in the Murgia barese. From here, it has been catched also in the lands around Taranto (overall Manduria, Avetrana, Maruggio, Sava, Lizzano, Torricella, Fragagnano, San Marzano), in the low Brindisi area and in the Lecce zone.
The name origin, is probably linked to the early biological cycle (the bloom, the riping, etc.), and for this reason the harvest take usually place in the first ten days of September.
The Primitivo is probably the ancestor of the Zinfandel, because the two grapes are genetically identical.
